Ipod/Itouch and trad bowhunting
« on: January 29, 2012, 09:31:00 PM »
I know, I know we are traditional bowhunters.  I love longbow hunting as much as anyone.  but I carry a cellphone too.  I am just now finding out how these things work and was wondering if any of my bro/sis could help.  I carry a at&t cell phone and get good reception where I hunt, I use internet for weather and tradgang so.
1) Will and Itouch which uses wifi, be able to connect and use the apps, as well as text?
2) Is the Iphone better to have the ability to talk, with lost of memory?
3)What apps are worth having on them?  I don't play games.  compass, gps, maps, books, weather?

Itouch ONLY works if WiFi is available. Never seen a WiFi signal where I hunt but I guess it is possible.

Other than that the IPhone and new Itouch gen 4 is almost identical in functionality. You can text and make calls with both, including the new Facetime which is a video call. However you must have WiFi for text and calling with an iTouch. (WiFi is required for either to do FaceTime)

So far as apps. I have several that I like and use when hunting. The Compass app of course, I have a GPS app that works really well as a backup and I think it was 99 cents. I also have a couple weather apps that I use, an app that stores information about my different longbows. (Brace height, poundage etc)

Hope this helps!

1. Only when within range of wifi.
2. I would consolidate and go with the iphone, plus you're not tied to wifi only when you might need to grab some quick data (such as a storm front rolling in, the weather channel app has a good animated map)
3. Compass and gps (using the map app) are built-in, more than that are personal preference but the weather channel app (free!) is pretty darn good. And if you can read books on that tiny screen then you can probably shoot the wings off a fly, or see them at least   :D

thanks guys, this started as I was thinking of an MP3 player, which led to of course getting most bang for buck, which of course for money differance which of the two would be better for bowhunting and bowfishing.  thanks guys  am new to the whole app thing.
