Excessive shelf wear?

Here's pix. Is this something to be worried about?
I have mostly been shooting 4 fletch. started @ 90 now moved to 75x105. Getting lots of wear as you can see.

Bad release? Fletching problems? I've tried rotating the fletch but it seems like I'm going to start hitting the shelf on the riser side if I go much further.

You might want to sprinkle some baby powder on the rest side plate area . Would let you know if and where they could be hitting. Just an idea , Arrow spine issue ?

If the shelf is wearing on the outside edge then I'd be looking at spine issues.  Likely too stiff an arrow in my experience, and of course you will want to start at step #1 to check nock height as well.

Have you tried 60x120 four fletch,it gives me great clearence and is easy to do on the three fletch setting.You can check it out on Foxfire's site under Kelly's tips.

Rybo, I had the very same problem with an old Hatfield takedown.  I was getting the same shelf wear that you are experiencing.  I tried several things and then finally tried a weaker shaft.  Wow, that was it.  I was shooting too stiff an arrow.  I'll bet you're having the same problem.  Try a weaker shaft and see what happens.  Good luck.

Ok, just went down the basement and tried the powder thing, could see no signs of contact anywhere. Even in the worn area.

Bareshafting, I never show stiff, even with a wide range of point weights. I'm either dead on, or slightly weak. Should I scrap the bareshaft results?

My old bow sort of had the same wear signs, just not as bad. Could I just have an odd release?

i had that same problem.  raised my nock point a bit and that fixed it.  just something to try

I sense our use of the word "bareshaft" may mean different things.  I am refering to the process as outlined on A&H Archery's web site.

Yea that's the one I followed. I went back out today and shot some more. 100 & 125 gr tips bury right in there with my fletched shafts at 20 yds. Just slightly nock high. go up to 145, and they start to hit a little right, go to 175 & 200, WAY to the right and even my fletched shafts are kicking all around in flight.

Now I do have a pretty low nock point cause I had a REAL tough time getting rid of a nock high bareshaft flight. Still never fully got rid of it, maybe I should raise it up?

By just looking at your picture and not reading anything, my first thought was that your nock point is too low.  Seems like a few others agree too.  Try raising it up and see if that clears up your problem. dino
