I was curious about all the disscusion about different species, so broke out the ol' guide book.

Here in Oklahoma we have Foxes and Greys. Reds (according to my Mammals of North America 3rd ed.) are found in the northren tier states where conifers (pines) are present. It says that Reds are a kind of Pine Squirrel.

Still a heck of a shot on a pretty small target.

thanks for the info buddy.. yeah up here we have mainly conifers.. not a whole lot of deciduous trees.. yeah it was a hell of a shot, its now officially black bear and turkey season, so hopefully i can get the same shot off on one of those two..

I shot a very nice squirrel one day that was one of my best shots ever....it was a southern fox squirrel..silver with black mask.  They are now protected but back then you could shoot one in that game zone.

Beautiful animal and tasty too.....i had it mounted just like it was when I shot him.  Man that was a long time ago...some good memories.
