Doe #2
« on: October 23, 2011, 08:53:00 PM »
Moved a stand today where a northern red oak started dropping last week.  I flushed 50 or so turkeys when I went in to hunt this afternoon.  Since no one is putting corn out in this area I started to call turkeys when they started talking.  I had them really going, yelps, purrs, gobbles, kee kees...  I heard running and grunting and look up and two deer, a buck and a doe run in under the oak tree 20 yards away.  I like me some doe backs straps, and with bonus antlerless tags in my wallet, it's on!!!

The doe finally got quartered perfect, I drew my  50 pound Herway longbow, anchored and sent my carbon express arrrow tipped with a razorbak 3 into the sweet pocket.  She mule kicked and tore off with the arrow sticking in stopped by the off side shoulder.

The turkeys were still yaking away, I went back to callin and had 30 hens, jakes and jennies all around me fighting, strutting, and I never  could get drawn, they never stayed still.

Anyway, here's the doe:

About time you get some meat on the table. I've been worried about you buddy. That new baby girl needs some protein....

Great shot brother! Sounds like a fantastic hunt.

Great shot, congrats.
I hunt deer because I love the entire process; the preparation, the excitement, and sustained suspense of trying to match my woods lore against the finely honed instincts of these creatures. - Fred Bear
