Short bow............long draw. ??
« on: March 13, 2008, 11:03:00 PM »
I hope this isn't a really dumb question. LOL (don't ya love the ones that start that way.    :knothead:    )
I have a long draw length 30-30.5" to the riser on most of my bows, and not coincidentally the shortest bow I have owned is 60", with my go to a 62" recurve.

I have an antelope trip planned for next season as well as some turkey hunting to do out of ground blinds so I just tonight traded "Crash" for a nice Morrison Shawnee A riser, B limb recurve 50# @ 28".........that makes a 56" bow.

I don't have any experience with the shorties and just had this sudden vision of damaging the limbs taking them back to my draw length.
I know Bob recommends 27" as the maximum "comfortable" draw length for that combo of limbs and riser.........so I expect some stacking at 30" but can I possibly do any damage to such a well crafted FF compatible limb set?

Just stressing here.     :help:

Bob doesn't recommend that length bow for your draw length. If you go to his website he has a chart of draw length/bow length. I had a 56" Cheyenne at one time and it was real rough at my 29+. Others may tell you different but like I said, Bob doesn't think it's a good match and the man makes them.

Dave,
Yeah I pretty much figured that from his site and I know it's not going to be the greatest of fits no doubt but I'm just looking for something to get by for a few hunts out of ground blinds now and then (provided I can hit anything with it  ;) )

My main concern is actually damaging the thing.

I shoot my buddies 55# vintage Bear Kodiak Mag at my draw length pretty well with no problems so surely I can't damage the bow in spite of it not feeling as nice as it should?

I will most likely also find a longer set of llimbs for everyday use as well.  I just wanted a short bow for this purpose and realize I'm kinda stuck with my draw length in the comfort department.

Damage is my main concern.
