I'm a little late posting this, finals are nuts right now. The 2017 turkey season has been nothing short of frustrating and humbling. Seems like the birds just aren't doing what they normally do. I have been hunting nearly everyday though in hopes of catching a break, last Tuesday I finally caught one.
I was actually walking up the stairs to take a nap, when I thought I heard a faint gobble, one hit on the glass call and it was confirmed. I ran up the hill for the first of 3 set ups, in a 3hr saga. After the 3rd setup I finally eliminated what was hanging him up, which was just some thicker underbrush.
He came back for a 3rd time and this time marched his way to 5yards into my Jake decoy. He was looking for a fight, and my omega gave him one. I hit a little back from where I was looking, and even though he got his wings under him he had no landing gear and his legs were useless due to a woodsman through both hips. A quick follow up shot followed and I just laid back in the grass and caught my breath. Finally the skunk had ended!
He was a 2yr old bird no doubt, 1" spurs and 9.5in beard. Took him with an Omega, 42@29 gold tip blems, and woodsman head. He bled like crazy even in the air, which I was happy about.
His crawl was completely packed with acorns. I thought that was cool.
The footage turned out great.
Thanks for looking a good luck the rest of this spring!!
