Old bear bow & paint
« on: July 12, 2017, 08:00:00 AM »
My cousin asked me to make a bow string for his mothers bow.  After getting the bow it appears to be an old grizzly. I am basing this on the size of the sticker residue left on the bow where the sticker was.  The bow also has the patent sticker on it and the large standing Bear. It is a dual shelf bow. My question is that the bow has the original leather handle and at the top of the leather and below the dual shelf has a ring of brown paint around the bow.  This appears to be original.  Anyone seen this before?

Sorry but I can't place photo's on this site.

Sounds like a 55 Kodiak.  How long is it?  grizzlies were 62". Kodiak 60" or 64"

Trap , it is a Kodiak. I was surprised about the 1/4" of brown paint around the bow just below the shelf and above the leather grip.

It's a nice look if you find a 55 with all the paint intact.

Great shooting bows also.  Those narrow limb tips make for a smooth and fast bow.

I love the 55-57 models.

Lots of  photos and video of Fred with 55 and 56 Kodiaks and  4 white arrows in a leathertop quiver.

It sure sounds like a 55, I have a 55 kodiak special, 55 kodiak and a 55 Grizzly, all different limb profiles but the plain Kodiak is my new BFF, what a GREAT shooter and a beautiful piece of history, also has the brown below the shelf !! The Grizz is my 2nd choice with the Special up 3rd. JR
