Glass vs self bow ,arrow rest vs knuckle
« on: May 15, 2018, 12:16:47 PM »
Well got rained out early from work so I took two of my 2018 hunting bows to the range In between rain drops one self bow & one glass R/D it really wasn't a apples for apples shoot off but both bows pull 48 lb. @31 & wanted to see how well they shot against each other , I was shooting 10- 30 yards typical hunting ranges, I came to the conclusion at under 20 yards shooting off the knuckle was not a disadvantage but beyound that the arrow rest was more accurate for me , but the osage bow was much quieter really doesent need silencers at the end of the day ether bow wood take game but the shelfed bow was more forgiving with a poor release.

Nice test Ritchie.  Do you think the difference in speed had anything to do with the accuracy at longer distances?
Life is too short to use marginal bow wood

Well that's a good point I'm shooting heavy Douglas fir arrows 560 grain  out of the osage and it's clocking 172fps consistently the R/D I just got the arrows dialed in and there probably 480 ish grained I will weight latter and I haven't clocked the R/D yet but running a heavy 14 strand D97 string on it and a 10 strand FF plus on the osage but my best guess is the R/D is besting the osage by at least 20 fps but on the longer shots the horizontal accuracy was off to ,so for me it's easier to be more accurate with the rest, with the knuckle all the stars have to line up but I'm only talking the way I shoot !

Well I was wrong the aluminum R/D arrows where a lot heavier then I thought @555 grains so both sets of arrows are close in weight !
