Old threads will not come up on google?

.... None of us realize how much effort went into putting together the new site. It must be kinda overwhelming I'd imagine.

you have no idea what we went through to be where we are today.  not a clue.  and that's ok.

this move has been at least a TEN YEAR quest, with a box car load of work and money invested in making it happen as best as it can be.

lemme put it to y'all this way - if we had to lose ALL the past threads in order to leave the old campsite, and start anew again, we would be FORCED to do so.

that's how bad things were.  we had no choice, it was either move or literally "die".

yes, it's nice to have a scrap book of past threads to look back on - in fact. it's way better'n nice, it's important.

we brought over tens of thousands of threads and millions of posts.  in fact, we culled out as many old threads that we felt were more dead weight than useful, in order to lighten the load for the tough trip ahead. 

we did the best we could, and the best will just hafta be good enuf.

let's all start making more good memories and build that new trad gang campfire book.

The string thread I started that was still ongoing seems to have disappeared along with several more that bit the dust along with it.

WHAT is the thread's title?

DIDJA do a search for it?

WHEN didja start the thread?

IF the thread, IF ANY THREAD, was started to prior to march 18th, it would never make it over.

dittos for any REPLIES to threads after march 18th - the threads would transition over, the new replies would not.

is it any of these string threads?

Not those.  Think "interesting" was in the title.  Don't recall the date or exact title.  I searched for it a few times.  It was the last one I'd started, was up to 4 pages or so, was still active when the move started.

Got our NASP state championship today.  Won our 5th consecutive North Half title last week, going for our 5th consecutive State title today.  I'll try looking for it again later.

I think that thread was started during the conversion. I was following it closely cuz I knew the info would be lost in the conversion.

Brad, I believe you're correct on that thread being started during the pre-move / move frenzy.  I was literally glued to the PowWow at the time the conversion started .  I visited that one a few times that week....interesting

Searching on this site should work fine.

For the people that are trying with a google search.
What google and other search engines ( so called spiders) do is visit a site as a guest ( not logged in)and do what is a crawl of the site indexing keywords and phrases.
They only do a few at a time.
Come back later and index some more.

The old site was up for many many years so all the search engines had a chance to index the complete site less what they can't access.

Now today we have changed the path and all the topics and posts have new paths.
This forum is a net new software program using PHP and mysql database instead of cgi and text file based.
So it was required to change the path.

So just like it took a long time for all the search engines to index the old site it will take a while to re-index the new forum.

For a while  it may show old and new links for the same posts when you google search but eventually it will only show links for the new site. It takes a while to index all the text in 2.8 million posts.

So in the interim while a google search may not work well, You also have many new features and performance gains using the new forum now.

That was it.  Bad timing I reckon.  The good news is it will come up again sooner or later, and I'm constantly studying this stuff and getting more information.

Being a string nerd, this stuff fascinates me.  Being a little bit OCD, all the misinformation about strings and string materials that gets touted as "fact" drives me nuts.  I've said it before and I'll say it again...the www is the best and worst thing to ever happen for information.
