Hill style bows/Northern mist

Looking at trying one out for those who have em what can you share about them? Also what arrows do you shoot from them?

I had a Shelton and was shooting cedars. I traded it, but will be acquiring another one in the near future. It was a lot of fun!!

Steve builds an excellent ASL longbow. I can shoot wood, carbon, or aluminum out of my Shelton.  Currently I am sort of returning to wood--just seems more natural for an ASL longbow.

I own 7 Hill style bows, five from HHA and two from Northern Mist. I like them all, and they perform similarly. They are smooth and quiet. All but one are bamboo. The exception is my NM Shelton, which is made of yew. I think it may draw just a bit more smoothly than the others. All these bows are really good performers. I own recurves, and r/d longbows, but all I shoot now is the Hill style bow.

I use only wooden arrows. Most are cedar, but I also like Douglas Fir. Hill bows and wooden arrows seem to be just a natural match. I f you are asking specifically about Northern Mist bows, I will solidly recommend them. They are good looking bows that perform excellently. Also, Steve is a great guy to deal with

I've had a passel of ASL's form just about all the top craftsman. I rate Mr. Turay's work to be in the very top echelon. His bows always seem to thump a bit less and the workmanship is incredible. I highly recommend Northern Mist. I most especially enjoy my Shelton.

I have a Classic and 2 Whispers from Steve.........great bows and just fun to shoot, I shoot wood arrows all most always. Have a bunch of Hills and a few other ASL type bows also.

I have a Shelton (string follow regular handle grip) and a Ramer which is a string follow reverse handle model. If you’re coming over from recurves, the Ramer is a little easier to master.  With these two models Steve recommends arrows spined at bow weight for 28” draw.  That’s exactly what my Shelton likes with 125 grain head. My favorite arrow from that bow is a Paul Jalon cedar arrow spined at 62# (bow is 55@28”) with a 185 grain Grizzly up front.  My 50# Ramer likes 55#spine cedar with 155 grain Grizzly heads.  Wood arrows and ASLs seem to be made for each other.

I have a Classic, a Shelton, and a Superior. I shoot Sitka Spruce and Ceder with all of them. Great bows each and every one. I'm really enjoying the Classic.

Those type of bows seem to pull easier for me then recurves or R/D bows, Jarrod.  I can shoot 3 more pounds.  You may want to keep that in mind when ordering one.   Chad
