tillering question for a newbee
« on: April 18, 2018, 02:47:25 PM »
:help:  :dunno: this may sound dumb but im not getting this bow tillering thing :dunno:..   :help:   been reading on some web forums and listening to some youtube videos and reading on loose tillering,  but i can't find anything on how loose the tiller string should be for loose tillering.  and then after its loose string tillered i can then brace it?   i was told to shorten the tiller string about a inch shorter than the lenght of the bow, for a loose tiller? then after i get the bow loose tillered past 10" i could shorten the tiller string 4" shorter then the bow itself. and brace it at 6" then i could drop the weight by removing the belly wood? any  :help: help please im kinda lost..  :help:

Ideally you want the tiller string about as long as the bow or slightly longer. If everything is OK with the tips moving 8" to 10" go to a low brace height of about 4". This will show you how the string tracks and you can make adjustments before you go too far. If everything lines up and both limbs are bending evenly and together you can go to normal brace height and continue tillering.
Make the most of all that comes and the least of all that goes!
