A shout out to all of you who have made this forum an awesome place.
I have been struggling with finding time to shoot and back issues. Last year I was shooting my bow regularly and quite well. I ordered a 60 lb longbow thinking that after some practice it would be a breeze and it was .
This year I have started shooting after a gap of 6 months and only had the 60 lb bow. I was just floored by poor accuracy and tuning issues.
Arrows wiggling like fish , a group like some one let of an old defective smooth bore shotgun. I asked my better half to measure me at full draw and I was barely drawing 28 inches ,not my regular 31 +. It was tough to take but I dropped poundage on my ilf bow and all the issues vanished.
I got great inputs from you all and just want to post my experiences in case some one is struggling with the same.
1- Get a bow you can comfortably pull , hold and aim.
2- tuning- someone posted here that bare shaft tuning is essential , I agree but only after you have achieved consistent form and release. If not yet in correct form and release get an arrow in the ball park range and get shooting. Focus on release and form.
3- point weight - carbons give you a lot of freedom to play with point weight , do it! The weak spine may turn out be a false reading from an arrow slapping the riser.
4- go long range - I tried shooting at 45 metres today and had the idea that I would just miss the entire 3×3 target. Not only was I hitting but I could also hit the tennis ball I was using as aim point several times. Now my 16 meter target appears huge by contrast.
5- learn to make your own tackle - it is easier and cheaper not to mention fun to experiment.
6- do a lot if research before you put your money down.
Hope this helps someone and again a huge thanks to all the guys who have helped me directly and indirectly by posting the huge volume of knowledge and experience on the forum.
