A pleasing but cold practise session
« on: May 21, 2018, 03:58:46 AM »
Hi all,

Just thought I'd share a good but short evening's shooting session.

It's late Autumn over here now, (guess you guys would call it Fall) and the days are getting shorter and colder. There's not much daylight left when I get home from work, but weather permitting, I still try to get a few shots in before its too dark.

Tonight was windy and cold (for me) like 40° cold. Had a big tiring day at work too and I actually thought for a brief moment about staying inside and not shooting my bow.

But it was only a brief moment.

I strung up my trusty old 75# Blackwidow longbow, called my dog, Belle, a female Blue Heeler who is my constant companion whenever I shoot my bow, and stepped out into the cold.

When I practice, I like to shoot only one arrow at a time, then move a few yards back, or forward, shoot one arrow, move again etc etc, to mix up the range.

My bag target has an old matchbox cover buried in it as an indistinct aiming point, so that was where I was looking. You can just see it under the center arrow.

Here are the first three shots. Cold, no warm ups no nothing, just one arrow from about 14 yards, one from 8, and one from 20 odd.

Got to have another half a dozen shots before the light was gone, from between 10 and 32 yards (as far as I can get in the backyard) and they all went well inside an 8" circle centered on the matchbox. All really good kill zone shots.

I put the bow away feeling very pleased.

Pretty chuffed with that. Cannot always do it like that, but it sure feels good when it all comes together.

Lex

Good hunting to you all.
May the wind be your friend, and may your arrows fly true,
Most of all, may the appreciation and the gratitude of what we do keep us humble......
