A new Trad Journey has hopefully begun!
« on: May 30, 2018, 05:28:58 PM »
Well, got my bow decided on, doing exercises with my arms and walking around my neighborhood to build up some stamina. (My MS produces extreme fatigue very quickly!). I just returned from the local ODFW office to inquire about disability/disabled veteran hunt opportunities. This didn't produce as much as I was hoping. :-( I did pick up a map for some new locations now that I'm in a new living area. I've got to find some place with easy access for a person with limited walking distance capability. I did find out, that in the units I like to hunt, I can harvest one deer during the buck only archery season with my disabled persons permit. So buck, doe or fawn.

Pre season scouting is going to be difficult! I am not to enthused to be out scouting by myself with this garbage I've got. I've already had 3 serious falls since being diagnosed. One resulted in a chipped bone in my right ankle. (I have some balance issues due to a major flareup.) I am hoping to develop a network of information if I could just find the right folks around who are willing to share some of what they know. Hopefully going to that new archery range might put me in contact with someone!

Anyway, hope y'all stay tuned as I give this a try! I am just not yet willing to go the gun and shoot from a vehicle stage! :nono:

Nothing replaces “boots on the ground” scouting.   I have started using Google Earth and other mapping software for much of my scouting.  You would be suprised how much you can learn.   I am not as young as I use to be!!  Still need to get out, but I try to limit my exposure to bad things happening to an old woman!

Depending on your disability rating Idaho has a  great  program for disabled vets. Might want to look into it.

Yeah but, does that extend to out of state. I don't live in Idaho! :)

I've found as I've gotten older that walking and scouting works much better with a walking stick.
