Thanks for the kind words about father.
As to the farm, couple clarifications, this was his home place and only place he ever developed/managed for deer hunting. Dad was not a wealthy man, he moved to Iowa over 20 yrs ago before "recreational land" was even a concept in the area and land prices were much lower. He was a tool and die maker in a factory in Ohio for 30yrs and took early retirement at 48, in 1986, when I was 12 years old. The only way that worked, and the only way he could buy land, was Mom's "frugality" as she called it. I could have qualified for the free lunch program in high school due to family income level. He was the definition of "land rich" after they moved to Iowa .
This place is really special for deer hunting, not just another southeast Iowa farm. There has not been another place like this on the market that I know of, and I don't think there is another place in that area that compares to the set up. I called it "the zoo" because that is what the hunting is like there. Really.
The realtor didn't use any of the pics I sent him, so there are several other mature bucks killed there not documented on the listing. We (the several stakeholders) are selling the farm for various reasons and it will make someone a great place. I'd be happy to field questions by private message.
Enough of that.... again I want to say we appreciate the support from the traditional bowhunting community and things are generally settling down for us all. For my wife and I mom and dad were our first loss of parents and the back to back timing was shocking.
I need to dig around for some old pictures and scan them in to post. There is really slot of interesting stuff in the dusty old photo albums.
Latest update for us is that Katia and I drove to Ohio last weekend pulling our stock trailer to bring back Dad's moose head mount. This is a 60 inch bull he killed in 1982 or 83 on the Moose John with Jay Massey and Doug Borland. Jim Emerson was on that hunt and killed a bull too, as well as Dick Robertson and Dick Hamilton.
