Why the Trad life rocks
« on: June 15, 2018, 03:44:17 AM »
First up, this is going to be long winded.

I started my trad journey in 2015 by ordering a bow from Ed Boyd of Trinity Longbows. The bow was his journeyman model in black wenge and was a blast to shoot. Sadly the bow had the limb tip lams come off and the repairs that I did under the guidance of the bowyer did not take. Contacted the bowyer and he generously offered to make another set of limbs with a discount as the bow was out of warranty. In between I decided to trade up and get a better riser and better limbs in terms of cosmetics.
The new bow was duly shipped and arrived well packed with no damage but broke on day one, thankfully not at full draw.
The bowyer and I both felt that the bow was not able to meet my long draw length.  He graciously offered to make me another pair of limbs and a one piece longbow but I declined as I felt that would have been taking undue advantage of a good soul.
We decided to part ways (as clients , still pals) and I was torn between 3 piece bows and 2 piece  bows. I picked Toelke bows for my next bow because of the confidence inspiring warranty and the no nonsense way in which Mr Dan talked and replied.
Ed transferred my cash to me Dan and I got an all black SS recurve. The postal system has been under going a software update in my country and after a bit of shoe leather was worn down i finally got my bow in hand today.
Well packed with no shipping damage the bow comes in a faux leather case. Two strings with string silencer are installed and all that I had to do was to string her up. Set up the brace height at 7.5 inches and took her out with 340 be man ICS full length with 260 grains upfront. The arrows shot exactly to point of aim. A bit of practise should see me busting nocks. The bow is smooth at my draw 31 and draws 52 pounds.
She is way light without being toylike and the micarta riser helps in stability. The sound is also noticeable when the bow is shot, by its abscence. No handshock or aberrant behaviour.
She looks understatededly elegant and has a lovely matte finish.
I wish to give a shout out to both Ed Boyd of trinity longbows and Mr Dan Toelke of montana bows for their time and patience as well as guidance.
They have both helped me out with queries and doubts.
Now I would like to own up to my shortcomings - being a phone junkie I was a bit over eager when I did not get a reply in my expected time frame from Ed. He is not plugged in like me and checks his mail after a few days.
Another person I want to thank is Cyclic Rivers who also helped me in the past and this time too.
Now for some pics. Last is a group from 15 yds

Nice! SS is a sweet shooter for sure, hard to believe how quiet they are for being a recurve! I'm impatiently waiting on my 7th Toelke, one of his new Whistler models! Should be here tomorrow or Monday! Good luck and good shooting with your new toy!

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!
