First post for me. After playing with carbon for a few months, I have decided I just like the way aluminum feels better. I was shooting 2018s but my draw has increased to a little over 29”.  I would like to shoot Zwickey Deltas, so figure 175gr. A full length 2117 bare shaft flies good out of my Pronghorn 3 piece which is about 54 pounds at my draw. Those weigh out at 595 gr. Should I also consider a 2215?  They are close in spine and I can work out the difference in length, I think.  Thanks in advance for the help.

First of all have you tried the 2018? You might be surprised.  Second... what makes that Delta weigh 175? 40 gr. adapter?  I'm shooting 57# @28" and shoot 150gr. to 200 + adapter with great results on the 2018. Use to shoot 2216 but really like the way the 2018 shoots. There is a difference of about 50 gr. weight difference and I like the slightly flatter trajectory.The thicker wall of the 2018 will be a much tougher arrow than the 2215.

I've ended up acquiring some aluminums myself. I have found 2018 full length which mine are 33" I'm shooting 175 on those,but haven't got them quite perfected. The 2117 take a little more weight up front,but I'm making them work as well.

Charlie, I have 42 grain adapters for the Deltas.  If memory serves me correctly, vary by a few grains anywhere from 170 to as much as 180 with the adapters.  I have some 2018s as that is what I used to shoot.  I love them by the way.  That said, the only ones I have are too short.  I have a 175 gr field point and the back of the point is overlapping the shelf by a quarter of an inch or so.  They are cut at 29".  That said, they show just a touch weak as a bare shaft.  To hunt with them, I feel like I need to cut them at 31" at least and I am guessing that that will weaken them even more.

I do like the weight of the 2018 better which is why I am curious about a 2215.  It looks like the spine of a 2215 (.419) falls between a 2018 (.464) and a 2117 (.407) but weighs less, maybe 50 gr on an arrow.


The weakness my 2018s show would probably be acceptable but I suspect (although I haven't tested it) that I will move into unacceptable if I add an inch or more of arrow.  I know that 1/4 of an inch can make a huge difference with the carbons.


I may be overthinking the whole thing.  Had I not shot a bare shaft, I could have shot 2018s or 2117s and been perfectly happy.  Fletched, they both seem to fly great, although I know my 2018s are too short.

Hi guys, hope ya had a great 4th.
I'm using 30" 2215, 28" draw, #45 with 175 points.  12.5 gpi, 17 percent FOC.  Fletch and bare fly together. 2117 bare flys a tad stiff but fletched will hit with the 2215's.
 If ya's don't like the 2215's n wanna unload  a few, lemme know.

Have you tried a 2020? At that length and a 2018 being a little weak this may work for you

I toyed with that idea Dave especially since they are on sale in Legacies for a screaming deal but that is one heavy arrow. Also just noticed we are not too far apart geographically. Stay cool, it’s been awfully hot around these parts.

That 2018 really is an interesting shaft . Does things that makes the spine charts vomit.

I was never a big fan of the 2018, seemed like they didn't do anything that I couldn't also do with a 2016 or 2117 and I could always find them cheap....haha.

I still have a bunch of XX75 2117 arrows and shafts but they are too weak for my bows.
I ended up buying some 2216s and 2219s as I couldn't trade the 2117s.
Still have those 2117s and even some 2213s laying around
