Bow form build
« on: July 12, 2018, 10:53:10 PM »
Hey folks,

I've acquired tools and materials and things over time, and I've got pretty much everything I generally see used to make a firehose bow form except for a bandsaw. Anyone have any recommendations as to what I might use instead, am should I just wait another several months to save up several hundred bucks and buy the bandsaw?

As far as wood cutting tools, I've got your typical hand saws, a jig saw, a sawzall, a circular saw, a table saw, and a router.

Thanks for any help!

Well, I should've looked at thenother recent posts first because I found some cool ideas about a Bosch jig saw and router combo method, and then some other cool things about a topless firehose form that should keep my costs down and my fun up.

Thanks!

Lol ,I was just going to recomend the jig saw with that Bosch you can get really close out side the line it cuts square if using a non guided one I would leave a little more room incase the cut isn't square and route to your guide with ether one , Kennym has a excelent form build along on his site too, its not that hard, wood working 101 but the trick is to get every thing symmetrically square so theres no issues down the line ,good 😊 luck post as you go !

I'd say a guy can get by without a bandsaw. Particularly if he's buying his lams and tapers pre-made.  Honestly, most of the use I get out of my bandsaw is resawing wood to make lams and cutting the ramps on the riser.

I built my first couple of bows with little more than hand tools when I was a young guy living in an apartment.
