For in the future go to the United blood trackers website and use the find a tracker link. There are a lot of us throughout the country that have blood tracking dogs and love to track. It looks like there are 30 or so listed there for Texas.  There are others around too that aren’t listed. They don’t work magic but sometimes it seems as if they do.

You can't find a deer that isn't dead and I do not think this deer is dead. 4 to 5 inches high ??? this would be difficult to tell - at least with my eyes - but lets stick with the hit is high. Had the same hit been coming down from 20 feet up there might have been a better result. Ground level - which I like ground level - but high shoulder ground level is simply NOT a fatal hit. The good news is you - or another member - will very likely see this buck again since there is a feeder program. The buck is not gut hit and because the arrow broke the deer is not walking around in a situation where the arrow might puncture more. You can start right now hunting this same buck. Maybe a camera would help. I am not really wired to use cameras but they would be helpful here to let you know if he is still in the area.
Good Luck - I don't think this story is over yet.
