Bow arm shoulder
« on: October 27, 2018, 08:00:20 PM »
I started shooting to the right all of a sudden---4-6" at 15 yards.  I shoot left handed.  No my arrows are not a bit stiff--- they had bareshafted well and flew well with broadheads.  I felt the issue was somewhere in my form.  I found that when i initially set up for the shot my bowarm shoulder was positioned to the right of the target.  I was not turning my upper body to correct the alignment.  I think that when the shot broke this caused my right hand to fly further to the right to line up w the shoulder position.

Once i lined my bow shoulder up w the target my shots were hitting center.   My string hand also started coming back to string  arm shoulder as it used to do.  Does this sound correct?

Yes, if your alignment is correct, and your form is correct, and your arrows are tuned, you should hit where you look.  If everything else is correct, and you align to the right, you should hit to the right.  It doesn’t matter if you are a LH or a RH shooter.

Thanks mcdave.  My problem originated from trying to raise my anchor to get closer po and shorter crawl, throwing me out of alignment.  Once i dropped back to index finger in corner of mouth, following getting completely into my back, all i had to do was tild my head a bit to get it over the arrow.

I tilt my head too. I realize it isn’t recommended, but after much soul searching, it works better for me than keeping my head in one place. YMMV, of course.

Proper alignment is 99% of good shooting.

The other 1% is doing it the same way every time with your conscious mind controlling the shot  :)

I’ve been having a similar issue lately except opposite (I’m right handed). It’s been very frustrating to run into this issue this time of the year.

Anybody have any tips on how to self diagnose mis-alignment?  More importantly how to effectively get back into correct alignment.

My alignment issues tend to show up when my back tension goes awry. When the tension goes, my alignment is off, and I pluck the string worse, which further creates trouble.

Tad, as i noted above, in my case i caused the alignment issues by chasing a higher facial anchor and tipping my head forward.  When i went back to a head on top of neck position and brought string hand back and in to head, following back tension "anchor" as Arne advised me my problems ( lefts and rights) went away.  If you are properly aligned the arrow has to go where its pointed.  My facial structure means index finger even w mouth is as high as i can go.
