Flemish bow strings?
«
on:

I have made several longbows and a few recurves. Most were made in 2012 to 2016. I made Dynaflight 97 for all of them. I had my sholder operated on in 2013. All bows have been un-strung and stored. Thinking of getting rid of most. Should l buy new strings or do they degrade being stored for a few years? Thanks, Don

I would wax them well and check for any wear. The strings should be fine IMHO.

I had a D97 string sitting in my shed for 2 years until I took it out started shooting with it again. Worked without trouble on a heavy longbow and certainly didn't break.

I've got bows that have had strings on for over 20 years, and I wouldn't hesitate to take one out today and shoot it.

As long as they weren't exposed to sunlight for long periods of time, they will be fine. Modern materials don't rot, but direct sunlight over a long period of time can cause damage.

Almost embarrassed to admit, but I'm shooting some D97 strings that are 15years old and have THOUSANDS of shots through them. No problem.
