So here's my plan. Thought I'd check it with y'all before I run it thru the band saw!!! I'm figuring he has a 30-31inch draw length. The bow will be 69.5 inches total. I figure his hand is a little bigger so extra 1/4 inch on top and bottom of my normal 7 inch handle accounting for the .5. Half inch from tips to nocks to shave an inch off of 70.5 inches. For hunting every inch counts and it already sounds long. Hickory pecan board bow, flat pyramid style. Walnut composite handle. 1.75" at the widest right by the handle tapering to half inch wide tips. Going for 50-55lb but probably 50lb so it's a little more enjoyable to practice with. The recipient is in his early 60's. I figure I'll cut it 3/4 inch thick close to the handle and 9/16 at the tips before tiller. Does my plan sound solid??? Thanks guys.

Will you post pics of your pecan board? I'd like to see the grain on the back, end and side. Your design should work OK although you could go a little wider and while tillering if the limbs are getting too thin you can tiller the edges, basically narrowing it to reduce weight.
Does the recipient already shoot a bow? If not, 50#-55# might be too heavy for a non-archer.
Make the most of all that comes and the least of all that goes!

Your bow plan sounds solid.  I would just suggest measuring an arrow as he draws a bow to get his draw length.  It puts a lot of stress on a wooden bow to be pulled that far and you don't want to pull further than you have to.
Life is too short to use marginal bow wood

I thought you where making the bow for me I'm in my early 60s & 6'4 '' tall my draw is 31"...lol  but I just went and blew the dust off a pecan bow I made a few years back it's 70 in. 1 3/4 at the fades parallel limb it pulls 50 lb. I could still dust it off and hunt with it if I had to , it's not the smoothest bow but serviceable it took very little set I used pecan I built it from the book  Paul Comstocks ,The Bent stick ,I forgot I even had that bow thanks for posting brought back some good memory's  missed a nice spike with that bow...lol

Can anyone tell me the easiest way to post pics from a android phone???  Can't find a sticky thread on it but if there is one that'll work too.

Well i spent today watching deer/ hunting(15 occurances with morning and afternoon) but i had my new 50# super griz. Always wanted one! Today is somewhere between the start and peak of the rut. I can tell you, the bucks are chasing and the does are walkrunning. Real pretty muscular 6 point was ten yrds to my left but we have antler restrictions and he was more straight up. I could have slapped the side of the ladder stand and i don't think he would have looked at me!!!! Bigger bodied than a skiny 10 i got in cam. Still haven't taken a deer with this bow. I could have taken a huge doe with two big fawns, plenty big enough to survive but my name in the woods is Keith the merciful. Also, they're my buck lures!!! Small herd here so this county is archery only with antler restrictions of 13" and you get 1 buck above that, a spike, and two does for the season. Im never in jeopardy of shooting too many. Going for the let'em'walk record growin the herd and managing the land/timber for deer. Tons of pecan and osage, or bodark as we call it. That's opposite on these wild pigs though. I love this super griz and will skewer their evil soul!!!! Maybe we should discuss optimal pig bow build!!!!
