Checking in
« on: May 17, 2018, 10:21:01 AM »
I wanted to drop in and say hi. I'm still alive and making knives but I have been very busy and have not been able to pursue all of my usual activities. I have three grandkids now, building a new workshop, and a much busier schedule besides that. I've missed being here and hope you guys will allow me to spend some time here again.

Lin, I remember a conversation we had here on Trad Gang about how you mark your damascus blades. What I thought was a stamp, you said was etched. It was a very deep mark.

Do you etch your mark in first, and then etch the rest of the blade more lightly, or etch the entire blade and then etch your name in more deeply?

I spoke with Ernie Grospitch (Blue Lightning Stencils) and he recommended polishing and then masking the mark area, etching the blade and then etching the mark. Then, a very light final etch of everything.

The look I'm trying to achieve is that of a deep stamp in the damascus.
