Feathers or vanes ?
«
on:
April 03, 2008, 05:45:00 PM »
My son is doing a science fair project and he wants to compare Feathers against vane. The question is "Which one is faster" We are looking for some resources. We are going to the range and use the chronograph. We wil be weighing the items.
Any tips or personal opinons would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think vanes will be faster for a given length and profile due to reduced surface area.

Within 50 yds feathers are faster bc of lighter mass but after that vanes are superior for their lower surface area.

Both the vane and the feather are 2.25 inch shield cut.
The max distance we will be shooting will be 30 yards.
