For our honeymoon my wife and I did a ten day bowhunt in South Africa. Next year is our 10th anniversary and we would like to head back. We went with Choronga Safaris last time and had a great time. Would like to see a new place and experience new things. I'm pretty content hunting cull animals and maybe a trophy or 2. Places that allow treestands would be awesome too. Side trips would be something else we would like to do. Last time we spent almost the full 10 days dark to dark in the blind. Who do you like?

Depending on where you end up, Tuli Lodge in Botswana, and Blithe River Canyon in SA are both excellent side trips. My wife and I did both, and were not disappointed in either!!!!
As far as outfitters, you might look at Dare to Bowhunt. Lammie uses tree stands some, and is a trad shooter too. Another couple I have used were Matsuri Safaris and Lenyati Safaris. Had great hunts with all of the above!!!!

My wife and I just returned for Namibia. We hunted with Makalaan Safari. Husband and wife own the business and they were teriffic hosts. The hunting was excellent and they took us all over Namibia to the parks on safaris. We were there for 2 weeks, but the hunting was only for 8 days. We got to see a lot of the country and how people live there. This is a bow hunting only hunting area and very small groups. My wife and I were the only ones there at the time. She was in the blind with me everyday, taking photos and videos. We put together a very nice DVD and backed it with traditional African music. Great memories. I would go back this year, but already booked a trip to Ireland for a present to the wife. Next year - back to Namibia.
If you want more info -PM me.

Not sure on area size for Trophy Game Safaris but will have more info on them when we get back Sept 12. I do know our friend Thom Jorgensen who was there last year. He said he saw more animals and better animals at Trophy Game then he did the year before with Dare to bowhunt

I'm not sure on the size of Makalaan Safari's either, but it is big. They have several blinds (elevated and pit) to hunt from. They determine which blind to put you in each morning, depending on wind direction for that day. On a slow day, we probably had 100 animals ( different species) and a busy day maybe 300. Plenty of shot oppertunies. A 20 yard shot would be a long shot. Most of my shots were 12 - 15 yards. The elevated blinds were 20 - 25 ft up, so a steep shot angle. All the blinds have room for 3 people - shooter, guide and observer ( for taking photos and videos).
Great hosts. I did a lot of research and I found that is was generally cheaper hunting in Namibia that South Africa. It is only an additional 2 hour flight from Jburg to Windhoek Nam.

I also went to Matsuri Safaris on a trip arranged by Gene Wensel. It was about 100 sq miles of habitat in South Africa. We had nice accommodation, but a rustic camp with no electricity except for periodic generator to charge batteries, phones etc. They catered to traditional bowhunters with close range shots and tree stands. I would not hesitate to go back with Van. Mike

My uncle went with Garry Kelly Safaris and very much enjoyed his experience. Accomodations were excellent and they hunted in three different locations, depending on what game they were after. He is heading back this August for Cape Buff. He and his wife went, and they made a side trip to Victoria Falls and a couple of other areas.
