3 rivers wood arrows
«

So I bought and built up some pre finished shafts from them. They shoot great and met my needs? is should I go with rose city or wapiti over them? I considered them to be beginner arrows but now I'm not sure that their arrows aren't par with anyone else. Would I gain anything from the other names out there?

3Rivers may get their shafts from Rose City.

My wood shafts from 3 Rivers were always great shafts; I had no need to go elsewhere.

3 Rivers pre-finished shafts are good quality but aren't weight matched unless you pay a little extra for matched shafts. Wapiti weight matches their shafts and they are one of the few vendors that harvest their own wood. Every arrow I've built with Wapiti shafts was within +/- 5 grains per dozen. They also offer their shafts precut to your desired length at no cost.

Surewood (sponsor here) for Douglas Fir or Wapiti for cedar shafts in either of their premium products would be my recommendation. I’ve never used 3Rivers supplied shafts so I can’t weigh in on them, but the other two have excellent shafts.

I've made lots of arrows from the 3Rivers prefinished shafts but I have to say looking at Wapiti for a couple of bucks more on the premium shafts you get weight matched arrows to 10 gr and a choice in stains depending on the shaft you buy. I'm going to go with Wapiti for my next shaft purchase.

Well, you can never have too many arrows! I will just say 14 years ago I started out with the 3R pre-made shafts and they did well enough for me. Took a lot of small game with them, but no deer. I do know other wood arrows I got from small vendors were of better quality, but they they weren’t “hunter” models either and cost more. Lost Nation makes a great arrow, too.

I think they are all good your going to have a bad wood arrow on occasion no matter what just because they are wood but that’s the fun and romance of it. I have used Surewood but would use any of them. Nothing like a wood bow and wood arrows! Kind of like bamboo fly rods and click pawl reel in fly fishing. Our lives are so crazy these days that simple outlets really help if we don’t make it thing.

I’ve had good luck with 3 Rivers shafts as well and think you answered your own question. That is, if they shoot great and meet your needs what else exactly are you looking for?
