Wood arrow?
« on: April 05, 2008, 08:25:00 PM »
I pull 48 lbs at 28.5'.... Shooting a D shaped Longbow cut 1/8 from center (not center cut)...

I'd say a 30 inch wood shaft with 125 gr. tip,

What spine would you suggest?
Blessings,
Steve

Starting with the 30 length you'll have about 1/2 inch to adjust if needed.

Bows that are not cut to center require less spine than the center cut ones.

Since shafts are grouped into 5# ranges I'd suggest either  45 to 50 pound spine or 50 to 55 pound. since your looking at 125 grain tips I'd lean towards the lighter group.

Maybe someone shooting the same setup will sound off.

I was thinking the exact same thing, 45/50 or 50/55 and I'd also lean towards the 45/50.  Depth of shelf cut makes a huge difference.

Great advice. I as well would start with 45/50.

Let us know what the bow "likes".

Might have to go heavier with ff.  I had to add about 10-15 switching to TS.

48lb plus 5lb for each inch of arrow over 28 equals 58lb.  I'd start with 55-60, or maybe 60-65 esp with the ff string.    The worst you would have to do is go to a heavier 160gr point and they may shoot better anyway.

This doesn't seem to fit with the other ideas, but the system works for me.
