If it wasn’t for bad luck.....
« on: August 01, 2019, 10:49:43 PM »
Got done with some chores around the house that should have been done earlier in the day, but, their done. So I decided to go by a spot I’ve seen a couple pigs recently from the road. But it’s getting late and it’s gonna have to be quick! So I rush back in and changed close, and as I rolled my pants leg to put on my socks I felt a pain in the back of my knee. Kind of a sharp, poking pain.

We’ve got stickers in the yard so I’m trying to figure out where the dad blame sticker is inside my pants as it starts to get WORSE! And now it’s over a couple inches. This is strange because my pants legs aren’t even touching my knee anymore in that area.

Then I see it: a brown scorpion! I flip out, attempt to brush it off at light speed, while simultaneously stripping out of the pants. Then began a 45min search in vain for the culprit.

So now I’m left with a sore knee, and even less time to drive the 10min to the spot. But, what the heck. I drive out there and park just as the sun is kissing the horizon. Luckily I’ve got a height advantage. You see, it’s the dam on the lake, so I’m on a 150’ tree stand with a view that’s forever! Surely nothing will see me way up here....

Except that doe who starts blowing and trots off. She was in a small clearing nearby the food plot the wildlife department cut just a couple weeks before. Well, at least I saw something, right?

Well, shortly after she left I see the local sheriff’s deputy pull up at the spillway about a half mile away. He’s making his rounds, and I watch him turn and drive off. Looking back to the clear cut and there stands a pig. Probably 150lbs +\-. And now her half dozen piglets appear, all around 20lbs and all as black as can be. I started side hilling down the embankment towards them hoping their poor sight will protect me from their view. They’re about 250yds away, but alas, she takes them across the small plot and into the tall grasses and out of the area. I watched them through my binos leave.

Oh well. I did end up going on down and looking around a bit, as well as tucking inside a small cedar somebody carved out a hole to hide in. Nothing came by and I left as it got pitch black.

Good times.

Thanks Soonerlongbow,
Great re-count of the evening. Really enjoyed it.

Scorpions are a painful mongrel though hey.

Best
Lex

Good hunting to you all.
May the wind be your friend, and may your arrows fly true,
Most of all, may the appreciation and the gratitude of what we do keep us humble......
