Quiver windchecker
« on: August 14, 2019, 03:32:16 PM »
Getting ready for deer season.  I threw together some burlap on a modified ballcap to break up my outline.  I had a couple questions last year when i posted a picture of a buck--- folks wondered what the little plastic gadget afixxed to my quiver was ( see forground in attached photo).  I changed up to a cooler version--- on top of my great northern quiver is a wingbone from a gobbler, stuffed with mulkweed strands for windchecking.  Thought it would go better with the Whip or Pika and real feathers.  Might have stuck with the plastic version if i were using plastic vanes....nah...

Neat idea. I just use the plastic squeeze bottle with powder in it for wind checks. I've never killed a turkey, so the wing bone trick isn't practical at this point.

If you take a lightweight bathrobe, with neutral colors as a beginning base and attach strips of burlap to it, you can make a good ghillie suit to go with your hat. It works even better if you use camo burlap. It is kind of hot, so it works better a little later in the season.

Thanks Sam.  I have an old camo vest that i thought about tying some burlap to.  Ive got several old bags and may dye some...  You're right--- that stuff is a bit warm.
Ive used an old saline bottle w cornstarch.  I like the milkweed as it shows what the wind is doing as it drifts.

Cool! I like using milkweed also, but I've just stuffed a pod in my vest pocket... I like your method a lot better!

Great idea ! Now I really need to get into the woods this October. Milkweed really floats in the light breeze! Thanks
