Toelke “Troll”/ Java Man “Eros”
« on: September 15, 2019, 02:22:58 PM »
Does anybody own these bows? I am interested in the Eros but also like the Troll.
Both of the are short and wondered about the riser / grip . Are they smooth drawing ?Does a heavier riser such as Micarta or Phenolic add stability?  I shoot from the ground and love the short easy handling /stability ( bracing) that my current ”Helms Deep” offers .Are the two bows twitchy? I hope to hear from those of you who seriously shoot theses short bows. Thanks in advance!

I had a troll.Hunted with it for a few seasons.Very handy for sure at 52".I would highly recommend it.I thought it was smooth and stable shooting. Was frankly pleasantly surprised at how well it shot for me.I had an Eagles flight setback quiver on it with 3 arrows for hunting.Nice unit.I drew it about 29 inches with no problem with stacking.I did not notice any pinch.I don't have fat fingers so that probably helps. But I got good releases.

If I was to order one I would get the phenolic most likely for the strength, rigidity and mass weight. But he does offer Dymalux if you want the wood look.Dymalux looks good on his website and adds weight similar to phenolic.I think those materials combined with a nice quiver will give you a stable shooting platform.A quiver on those would be probably be better if it has the setback option so the arrows are kicked back at an angle and wont be in the way as much on that short bow.Especially if your ground hunting.Eagles Flight setback or Great northern setback and maybe even their setback extreme might be best option for that particular bow.

If I was gonna buy another short recurve it would be at the top of my list.It is on my list.I just need more $!

Cant comment on the Eros. But anything Java makes is high end functional Art.

Im familiar with all three bows mentioned.  If you already have a Helms Deep and are happy not sure why youd switch unless you were just plain bored of it and wanted to spend some $?  The Eros has a setback handle so you might gain a little tiny bit of speed for a given brace height vs the Helms but its not anything youd be able to see without a chrono.  If you have a shorter than 28 draw this might help you.  The Troll is an excellent short bow very similar to a Bear Kmag but quieter and smoother.  Vs the Helms and Eros Dan can build one with a very full palm swell, higher wrist and if using a heavy wood or bow bolt with phenolic add some nice mass to such a small bow, but that may defeat the purpose of a light handy bow for you depending on your desires?  Really cant go wrong with any of them for a short brush bow.  The Helms would work best for draws over 28 in its longer lengths.  Its one of the smoothest if not the smoothest pullers Gregg makes.
