It was 1964 and I was involved in a little Battle of The Bulge action in my Dad's hay shed, when the kid from the next farm showed up. He had two hickory sticks and wanted to know if I wanted to help make a couple of bows. He knew my Dad had a draw knife. I think my uncle felt sorry for me when he saw the result. He bought me a Ben Pearson 20lb fiber glass for my birthday. I've been at it ever since. I still have the first Bear K-mag and one metric mag arrow that I purchased in 1974 for $64.00.

I got bored with wheels and my son was getting old enough to shoot and (being the good parent that I am)I didn't want him to get hooked on wheels. He never needed them for his bike, so why on his bow? My son and I love to hunt and shoot together and that is what it's all about for me.

I guess I am like the rest.  I started in the early 80s shooting a Pearson Wheelie bow.  It got a little too routine and boring so I bought my first Bear takedown.  I love the freeedom of a takedown and the easy way you feel when you carry it.  I now do a lot of Hunting for Pigs and a whole lot of Hiking with a bow.  Funny thing is I love the simplicity of a recurve but I also shoot a Oneida bow (no wheels but levers) bare bow... well it looks like a recurve anyway.  Shoot both Instictive.

It was very simple really.  They had not yet invented compounds which made my choices pretty simple.    :archer:

I first shot a recurve when I was 1 at hunter safety.  I was impressed by the light weight.  It probably had a draw weight of 20#.  This was 1995.  I still went with the compound from the get go and used one for about 8 years.

I went to the woodward dream cruise and happened across a left handed recurve.  I always knew I was left eye dominant and remembered the first recurve I shot.

I bought it for the steep price of $15 dollars.  It was a bear kodiak 50#.  I switched from right to left and to traditional all in one go.  This was only 5 years ago.
