Pa. Regular season
« on: September 27, 2019, 05:06:13 PM »
Just wanted to wish all the trad hunters here, or coming to Pa., good luck.  The season is only a week away and I, for one, am getting stoked.
Stay safe and enjoy the woods

The lack of game on PA northern tier public lands is depressing. (not talking about those fringes where aunt lets you 4 wheeler your stand in.) I'm talking about the 10s of thousands of acres of public land northern big woods ruled by the state forest a$$holes. It's a tragedy and unnecessary. You can't tell me any private land owner wouldn't do better with both timber and deer at the same time. People need to stop passively agreeing with low deer densities because the biologist said that what we need. lets cut some of those dead dark side hills.
I was just in wyoming where deer numbers far exceed anything PA ever had. Browse lines are everywhere, deer stand so thick in the bushes that the ground is muddy. Yet they have a drawing for tags! We can do better in PA in the big woods. It used to be my favorite place to hunt.
These are on my new place.

Yes, they are whoppers. Bigger than anything I ever shot! I had the bigger one at 15 yards this summer when scouting one evening. I tried to back out unseen but he finally spooked when the breeze switched. Only one sighting since.
Coyotes are bothering them right now. I'll let the air out of any that I can get a crack at.

I contend that the best thing for deer numbers is a chainsaw and a highway flare.
Clear out those old forests.  It is amazing the deer you have just two years after logging.

Grew up in PA and deer are a browse creature, life in the new growth.
