BigJim, I appreciate the additional insight. It’s great having multiple bowyers with much more experience than I giving such valuable wisdom. Thank you all.

I use 36 grit on all of my lambs and I make all of my own lams without any problems. I Know when I was making lams for another big company and sanding with 50 grit, they weren't happy with the 50. They requested coarser.

I see no sign of lines under glass caused by rough wood. I do see some lines in glass itself ocasionally and can get bubbles from too much moisture in wood.

Just my experience, BigJim

Now I'm confused, maybe you can clarify why you  are using a finer grit?  Will you be using 100 grit in 2029? :bigsmyl:

Well, I changed grit to 60 because I purchase a couple of oscillating wide belt sanders and not only do they sand considerably better than drum sanders, I did occasionally see wavy lines in a couple species of wood due to the oscillation ... Maple was the biggest issue.

When sanding desert ironwood and snakewood for veneers, I would still switch back to 36 grit... I no longer offer snakewood for veneer unless someone wants to pay a stupid amount extra to cover the warranty that I'm likely to have to honor on snakewood veneer.
Thanks, bigJim
