Buy a chunk of hardwood doweling (oak, maple) and practice on the dowel.

Ifn you mess up on the dowel, you won't cry a lot, unlike if you mess up on a cherished bow!

I've seen Tim's work. It is beautiful. I should've had him do mine when he was in a generous mood and willing to try other's bows!  

Now, Tim...I never realized you use a dremel. I've had some, ..well, lets call them "interesting" experiences with my dremel.

QUESTION: I wonder if you ever tried a center punch or the like to "peen" the stipple in one at a time vs. the dremel or did you start with the dremel?

I just think I'd have so much more confidence lining up a peen and then tapping it with a small brass hammer than letting my cluster-putz hands get near a bow with a bloody dremel running 3/4 speed!      :eek:

Looks like fun, now's the hard part...deciding which bow to 'experiment' on.  Sure would look nice on my Widow.  (Gulp...)

I just pulled off the original rest to try a raised rest on my Schafer. Glad it came checkered So I do not need to try this on it.
