Bucks running in Wisconsin ?
« on: November 07, 2019, 09:18:36 PM »
I am very confused I have been hunting hard for last 3 weeks, not seeing any bucks chasing and fawns still with the does. Seems like rut is later this year. Anybody from Wisconsin seeing same thing ?

It seems later, guys reporting running on November 3rd in Minnesota. Check bowsite. I used to hit Wisconsin after Minnesota firearm, this weekend (you guys are usually two weeks later)I can't do it anymore with MN regs on transport of game over border, not happy about it, love Wisconsin!

My boys have shot 2 really nice ones so I know something is going on. Just not even seeing small ones chasing. Maybe this weekend

Hey gary I know you already have my take.  Witness 2 bucks chasing this week.  All others didn't give a darn. I haven't been counting but think I've seen 12 or 23 bucks this week

They have been ignoring my calls except one big one who ran off

The buck I had at 5 yards tonight, i waited the entire day for the opportunity although at 11. Had to go in to warm up. 8 degrees is a bit colder than i prefer lol. Food and sunny bedding is key rightnow

My take is this, I have been chasing these silly critters for about 25 years in north central Wisconsin(Lincoln County).

Every year when we have a full moon that is NOT during the first week of November I have seen slower than "normal" buck activity.  I never seem to have a day or two when the woods blows up with activity.  This year has been no exception, I have seen a couple of bucks and was fortunate enough to harvest a 2.5 year old yesterday but it has been very slow overall.

On the other hand my son, who lives in the western part of the State has had almost continuous action for the last 2 weeks, go figure....

Last Saturday in the Necedah area the bucks were running mad and no does. My brothers all saw multiple numbers of decent bucks. Sunday we heard wolves and I only saw one 8 ptr early. Down in Dane county this week I've seen a good number of does and no bucks, go figure.

Today I had a buck cone in doing a tending grunt. Saw another 2.5 year old cruising.   Had a fork come in at last light. As soon as he showed up a doe that had been keeping me company for 2 hours ran off leaving her fawns behind. After 10 or so minutes the fork followed. I think another buck was over where the doe ran but I couldn't look without getting busted

I just got back home from a week at my place in Shawano Co. I saw a lot of deer, many were bucks. Most does still had fawns with them. Wed. after the snow, the activity really picked up, then the following days settled back down. Mornings were a bust, only 9 degrees Thur. saw some does, alone.
I did see many deer, and passed on several small bucks. Over all, a great time. But, not the rutting activity I expected for the first week of Nov. especially with the snow and cold temps. Good luck to all.

They were running hard the 3d through 7th last week in southern WI farm country, some lock down going on as does are receptive. Best rut week in my 46 years bowhunting whitetails!
