New Mexico Traditional Archery
« on: December 16, 2019, 03:53:50 PM »
I just spent a good minute looking for threads on New Mexico, most of them are more than ten years old. After several world class adventures unrelated to Archery, Thailand, sailing, sled dogs, a couple years in Alaska where I did some small game hunting with a longbow, mostly gun hunting survival stuff, I am relocated back to my old stomping grounds of New Mexico.

Im pretty close to Clovis and understand there is/was a large 3D club there, I have not seen much as far as Traditional Archery online and not on FB. New Mexico is one of the few states that does not have a state forum on TG, so wondering what if any Traditional Archery is going on in New Mexico and maybe some locals on TG.

Even the GOOG does not come up with much of any information on Traditional Archery here. I completely understand this is not Michigan but there must be a good unadvertised state club or something going on in such a beautiful and wild state.

Fortunately the new place has plenty of space to shoot but would like to hang out TA in real life more than once a year in Michigan.

Check out this link, it doesn't mention trad but does show some club activity.

I know of no organized trad clubs or shoots in NM.  There are quite a few individuals who do shoot trad.  I travel to Colorado every other year and shoot at the High Country Shoot put on by Colorado Traditional Archery Assoc.  About 500 archers and several vendors- sort of a big deal for this part of the country.

Most of the trad shooters I know in NM I met at the Sunrise shoot on the White Mnt. nation's Ski resort.  Most of them are Navaho Nation folks.  I shot in a 3D in Gallup on my way to CO to hunt elk this year.  I get about 4 or 5 invites to shoots every year.  Gallup is on my way to Cortez CO.

Thanks, I checked the link, and a few more NM Archery sites, no specific Trad Club or shoots listed. I found a website for the Clovis Bowhunters and found a few videos on YuckTube, all compound. I did find a couple phone numbers for the Clovis Club so will give them a call.

Sadly, but not surprisingly, most everything is non traditional so looks like I will be buying some new 3d targets for the back forty. The closest club I found was in Lubbock Texas and their website was broken so that may or may not exist anymore.

If I find out anything, will post it, and see if anyone has any underground info. There has to be some kind of Trad Club or something up in Sant Fe Taos area, but may be an excuse to head up to Colorado a few weekends this summer.

You’re going through the same search I did when I relocated to AZ. There was a Trad organization but it went away. From what I heard they ran out of “worker bees”. A common issue with clubs. There is a club about 2 hours away that has a Trad shoot once a year. Otherwise we shoot with the wheel guys.

M60, that sounds about right. I suspect unless one is living in Michigan its rubbing shoulders with the contraption oriented if you want to shoot in public. Most likely there are lots of people on here that shoot alone and or with a couple friends in the back yard, then post online for most of their campfires.
