Chasing in February???
« on: February 11, 2020, 10:37:56 AM »
Saw a buck checking out a doe this morning. Now I know that in the Deep South it’s not uncommon for the rut to be late December or even January for the desert SW Couse deer, but we’re talking SW Okie deer.

I've seen some of that same action here in North Central Texas.  I think it's some fawns from this year coming in or does that were missed.

I checked a camera on a main trail yesterday.  I had a series of photos from the 5th of February showing a nice doe with a fork buck and 6 point right behind her.  It looked to me like the 6 caught up to her and checked her but they may have been hanging together and not chasing.  Just seems like an odd group this time of year.  This is in SE Indiana near Kentucky line.

A feeble legged fawn at Christmas time is a product of a late April early May rut. Assuming 1 month of age and a 201 day gestation
