Finding bow to suit arrows
« on: February 10, 2020, 01:44:56 AM »
To preface this post, I'm just getting back into archery after some time off and all my gear having been deemed needed by someone else more than me, aka: stolen.

I have a very nice Great Northern 51# @27" but have a 29" draw, the bow does not have a shelf cut, so I tried a few different shafts and a 500 spine shot best. I now have a dozen arrows for this bow, but would like a little lighter draw bow for training or practice, but would like to use the same arrows. My thinking, a center shot riser of a lighter weight should be ok for shooting the 500 spine arrows I have. Looking for something that costs about a Benjamin, so likely a Sage Sammick, but should I go for 35# or 40#? Used bows are not out of the question, either so for a center shot riser what weight would you look for that would suit (most likely) the arrows i already have?

Cheers!

Would believe a 35# Sage would be much loser than a 40# Sage.

The Samick Sage in a takedown recurve does not appear to be made anymore, although there are a few of what appear to be close outs available on Amazon.  Samick Sage seems to have morphed into a one piece recurve or longbow.  There is a bow called the Edge available at 3 Rivers which seems almost identical to the old takedown Sage, which might be worth checking out.  Worthwhile to check out the close outs on Amazon because the price is greatly reduced, but most common sizes seem to be sold out.

For that budget I would check out metal riser beginners bow like 3Rivers sells.

Per Lancaster: The ORIGINAL Sage takedown recurve bow is becoming the Galaxy Sage! The Galaxy Archery team includes designers and archers who developed the original Sage design nearly a decade ago using Samick as the manufacturer and brand. During 2018, Sage bows purchased from Lancaster Archery Supply may bear Samick or Galaxy branding. Galaxy Archery principals own the trademark rights on the Sage name and will continue to support both Samick Sage and Galaxy Sage models.

You could also use different weight points to get the arrows to the right spine. My cedars that shoot well out of my 70lb recurve with. 125 gr point shoot close enough for me with a 160 gr point out of my 50lb deitzcustoms longbow. Not perfect but with field points good enough to practice with.

Kinda, but not as complex, lol! I've bought guns simply because I had brass and dies to load for it...
