Finding Build Alongs?
« on: March 01, 2020, 09:42:06 PM »
I really enjoy all the build-alongs that the talented Trad Gang members generously post on The Bowyer's Bench, and the other great how-to's in the other forums. I like to go back occasionally and review them to refresh myself on some of the details or specs that I don't trust to memory.  I had bookmarked several of the post that I like but I recently took my desktop in for maintenance and lost all of my bookmarks. I realize that we have some great how-to's and build alongs in the "Archived Topics" but the latest build-along is from 2008.  There have been many great build-alongs in the last twelve years and it is quite a chore to go back through all of the post page by page to try and locate them.  It would be great if the Trad Gang computer gurus could add the build-alongs and how-to's to the archived topics or create a new location where the links to them would be located. If you do a search for" build along" all the results are from years 2003 thru 08.  Maybe this is a dumb idea, maybe I'm missing something, if there already is an easy way to locate them please fill me in.

I don't think their are any computer "Guru's" here, maybe computer geezers ;)
Your going to have to dig deep to find what you are looking for, or if your lucky some benevolent duffer will share his bookmarks that he did not forget to backup :bigsmyl:

I don't think computers and geezers goes together very well.  :readit:
I've done a few wood bow build alongs over the years here on Bowyers Bench but I'm not sure about pics. Many were Photobucket pics.  :knothead:

Go to the top of the page and do a search for build alongs.

HA ha!  As suggested, I just did another search at the top of this page for "Build Alongs",  I got 3 results. All 3 are this thread!

Photobucket did immeasureable damage to so many forums.  Best thing ever is the site software like we have here to post direct form our own photo folders!

Ok, go to the main boards page and scroll down, way down, past the highlights and you’ll find it.

Dave, like I said earlier, the newer post there are from 2008, and it is locked so new post can't be added there. A lot of the photos there were through Photo Bucket and they either don't work or are blurred to the point of being useless.  I just think it would be nice if we could gather the newer build alongs  in a new forum or some place where they could be easily found.

Royce, I don't think anybody here in this forum can help you. You need to talk to the big dogs. Terry Green or Rob DiStefano, I think.
I agree with you, build alongs are a great resource. It would be a valuable addition to the website. I am guessing the powers that be are consumers, not producers.

Thanks Flem. I am hoping that one of them will see this thread.

Even though it may take someone some time and work to set it up it just seams to me that it would be very beneficial for all.

Ritchie, I was thinking the same thing. Funny how great minds think alike :goldtooth:. I just didn"t know if I should run it by a moderator first. I suppose if I do start the thread and they don't like it they could delete it.

Would work best if it is a sticky.  Otherwise it's gonna scroll away into the land of forgotten bytes.
