I use a mouse pad as a base. It gets the arrow up off the table, and allows you to align it a bit better.

Fist I like to clean my shafts with alcohol and let dry.If it is a shinning black shaft I'll scuff it with some 0000 steel wool and then wipe clean with alcohol. Then I like to to use a mouse pad set on top of a large book to elevate the shaft so nothing will hit the shaft as I roll it.I lay the wrap on the pad and line up the shaft at the nock and start to roll the shaft. And I keep alittle pressure on it as I roll and then I roll it back and forth just to make sure it sticks good. And then I'm done.

Just found out they work great on wooden arrows too.  Here's a couple pics of a set a local LTB/TG member helped me with this past weekend. Definetely recommend using a mouse pad to help you roll them on.

Between working, sleeping and eating I finally finished the arrows for my boys. Wasn't near as hard as I thought it was going to be and beats dipping or spraying by a long shot.
