Brace height target for 50s style recurve?
« on: April 21, 2020, 11:10:12 AM »
I'm working in a new design best described as a 50s style recurve, although it is a take down.  It is 62" AMO.  I finally got a string on it and with a 59" string it has a 7 inch brace height. I could probably twist it up to 7.5".

I don't own a 50s style recurve and was wondering if this is in the normal range. I dont have tips and overlays on it yet to actually shoot and see where it works best, but just wondering where these kind of bows usually live.

Back in those Bad Olde Dayes we used to talk about the string height being a fistmele -- make a fist on the belly of the grip and extend your thumb.  Vary a bit from shooter to shooter.  My fistmele is around 6.5".

Your on the right  track around that 7"/7-1/2"
I would rather fail at something above my means, than to succeed at something  beneath my means

Cool. Then I don't have to worry about making a shorter string. I was concerned because lots of recurves work more in the 8-8 1/2" range.  Been trying to make it to AMO dimensions.
