Bingham Drill Jig

Seems to me that Bingham's drilling jig is not accurate with its center line. Anyone else experiencing this? All of my takedowns have been a bear to get aligned and tracking true and I'm starting to believe it isn't all my fault. May be looking into making a new jig of my own.

Lack of a centering jig and uncertainty about what to get is keeping me outa the TD game.  I'm interested in all that may be said in this thread!

I use one similar to this one that Bingham's used to sell. I took it to a machine shop and had the 7/16 hole drilled out to 27/64, it only cost me $20 to get it drilled out.

I thing this is the best way to go, I have one myself, If I start making T/D again I will do the same.

I have A dowel it. How are you guys approaching the spacing between the bolt hole and alignment pin when using the dowel it?

I thought mine was off. The pin hole was always off the same direction. I bought another one, it was better but seemed to still be off a little. I had been drilling them using a drill press to drill the holes. I think the bed on the press was flexing enough to throw the small hole off. I start clamping my two Bingham jigs together with the flats together and drilling by hand. My holes have been close to perfect. I think the biggest problem with Binghams jig is it’s not thick enough.

I had one of those Dowel-it jigs, gave it to Ritchie (gulp). They are made for doweling two pieces of wood together, a non critical operation. If you are looking for machining accuracy, there are better options. Even a drill press and vice would give better results.

A flat machined plate and block that you can drill from both sides keeping the same side down on the riser and orient the limbs drilling one from each side. then keeping them all down when.  assembled. then the top side may need some milling.

Mike is your jig tapped in the bolt hole to allow for a bushing of different drill bit sizes?

YesRobert I have 7/16s 3/8s and 5/16s drill bushings. Also if you get the block machined  right you can flip it and do both recurve and longbows.

Stic has probably the best setup for pro results.

I am blessed having a mini mill that is very repeatable and gives a lot of options.
