Removable camouflage bow paint
« on: May 10, 2020, 09:10:08 PM »
In the distant past, I was able to buy spray paint specifically for bows, etc. that was removable. Now all I can find is oil-based Rustoleum.
Anyone have any suggestions?

i used that stuff quite a bit, and it really wasnt that removable, so now i just dont plan on removing and spray very lightly, just in case i change my mind. lacquer thinner and a scrubby pad will remove most.

If it’s the spray paint I remember it was a kit marketed by Saunders Archery. I still have the sheet of stencils that came with it. I used to wax the bow first, read that somewhere and it made removal easy with Mineral Sprits. Didn’t wreck the finish either. One thing I would caution you about, don’t use Latex house paint. I ruined a set of limbs trying to remove it.

Furniture or Car Wax...
Wax your bow but don't rob it off. Then spray your bow with what ever you want. Paint is now on wax not bow. Hair dryer will remove wax & paint.

I used some of that "removable" paint many years ago. I never did get all of it off the two bows I used it on, even when using the company's remover. I will NEVER paint over a bow again. I guess this constitutes a recommendation not to paint your bow.

I used to paint but now I just camo face paint. Just rub on , wipe off.  If your glass has cracks in it the grease will be harder to remove.
Reapply as needed , lasts quite awhile .
But as stated if I paint a bow it's there to stay.

Like Tippit said, car wax not buffed out works good.
I used the paint you mentioned, I believe it was called Bow Dull and came in about four colors.

Thanks folks. Lots to consider.
I wonder if using dull colored tape , wrap, or some other application would appreciably change the performance of the bow, requiring an adjustment of arrow details. I recall using cloth “bow socks” on my first “real bow” (a Howitt Cavalier, with shiny white glass) back in the ‘60s, but have no clue if the cast changed with their use.

I have made a habit out of just using a brush and acrylic little kids paints from walmart.  The removal involves the rough side of an old sponge and a bit of rubbing alcohol. I have a montana that has gone though this about 12 times, no issues.

I used camo tape once, jerked off 2 inches of finish when I removed it. Never again. It's a Browning Safari, just put it in a bow sock and hung it on the wall.Ok ,well thanks for allowing me to vent.😢😁

Well: I decided to take Arrow 30’s advice, and ordered one set each of the elastic bow covers 3 Rivers offered. I am purposing these for the two recurves I am using to try to stay in shape while waiting for my longbow to come back from “the shop”. (It doesn’t need camo, it looks like a no-shine mahogany branch). I sure hope it comes back soon: I am actually starting to hit that at which I am aiming with the recurves. Does that mean I won’t hit with the longbow? August is coming quickly.

I use wax to knock off any shine. I killed my biggest buck wearing a flannel shirt and jeans (no camo) I think that it's over rated. I wish you luck but feel you are wasting your time.

Yeah, JD, I agree about the deer, but the turkeys are a whole ‘nuther step up in spooky, and the Kodiak is backed with white glass.

Very true Yolla, I use a blind for birds. Killed my tom last year with my waxed down Lil Creep but wearing street clothes... Just had come back from a shopping trip with the Wife and had an hour of day light left to hunt, used an old Double Bull blind for a five yard shot/recovery..
