Another BH question

Trying to decide and need opinions on the BH to use for elk in CO this Sept. 60# modern recurve, 30” Victory Carbon Trad arrows, total weight 540 gr which includes 125 gr point and 80 gr insert. Choices are:
Woodsman 3-blade
Dirt nap DRT 2-blade with bleeders
G5 Montec 3-blade
Bearpaw German Jager 2-blade
Steel Force 2-blade
Carbon Express Piledriver 2-blade
Main puzzler for me is 2- or 3-blade. Curious to hear opinions. Yes I know any is likely fine if I hit it in the right spot, but...

Woodsman is only head I have experience with and all positive.

I am a two blade shooter.  The only 3 blade stuff I have shot is the woodsman and the G5.  Those were both on wheel bows.  I have stuck to 2 blade on my curves and LB's.  I have had no problems with 2 blade performance on 45# bows giving me pass through's from 25 yards in on our good sized Illinois deer.  I will admit I stay away from bleeder blades.

All the usual applies.  Keep em sharp as hell and know how to put the arrow where it should go.

You have enough punch to go either way.  Among the heads you list, I'd opt for the longer sleeker ones like the Woodsman or the 2-blade Steel Force. Better mechanical advantage than the stubbier two-and three-blades.

If I can kill a 2000# Bison with a 70 pound longbbow and a WW, surely you can kill an elk with 60 pound bow with a WW.

Montecs are powdered metal... that's a serious no no for me.

I agree that powdered metal is a no go!

Personally I like VPA's because I can get them in a wider cut than the WW heads, but the WW's are killers. At 60 lbs you could use a bigger broadhead on elk. Your bow will be plenty for elk even with a little wider head.

Pardon my ignorance but what is “powdered” metal? I’ve used Montecs with great success on whitetails with 50&55# limbs. I totally get that elk are vastly different; just curious about the term “powdered.” I was already kinda leaning toward the Woodsmans or DRTs.

Montec uses a precision injection molding process of powdered metal being injected into molds under high temps and thus forming a seamless one piece molded broadhead.  Thats the simple explanation.

I personally had no problems with them, but as I said, that was back in my wheel days.

I have heard, and this is second and third hand that some folks had them shatter on hitting heavy bone....  Like I said....  I have heard....

Just some info.....  I am not putting Montec down in any way.

Powdered metal will never get as sharp, and will never hold an edge as well as real metal.

Life is too short to shoot inferior broadheads

I do love the Woodsmans and have had good success shooting their glue-ons on wooden arrows for whitetails shooting 50-55 lbs., I just wasn’t sure 3-blades are appropriate for elk. But I guess with 60# limbs & carbon arrows with more FOC they’ll do the job, as long as I do mine.

The slightly more slender design allows you to take advantage of the added cutting power of the Woodsman head.  More than enough horsepower.

If you are coming to Colorado - stop by Rocky Mountain Specialties and get some of their Rocky Montain Cut Throats - single bevel two blade.  I use them in Africa and was really impressed.  I have shot Zwikee BH for close to 40 years or so.  The RMCT heads are much tougher in design.  I had pass through shots on 6 animals in Africa. 
Just a thought - you would also be visiting the best Traditional shop in Colorado.

Out of those you list in your post, the one I would recommend is the Woodsman. They are great heads.

Caint kill nuttin if you ain't shootin a zwickey.
 Atleast that's my experience .
 Even old bear razor heads are pretty deadly.
 I don't think you can go wrong with any of the aforementioned heads. Just be sure it's one youre confident in and can keep it sharp
