Cold weather shooting glove

I'm in NYS and it gets pretty cold here in late season. I'm new to trad archery and shoot three under with a three finger shooting glove right now, I was thinking about buying some snug fitting regular leather work gloves(five fingers) and start shooting with them on both hands just to get accustomed to wearing something that will be a little more comfortable in the late fall.
Does anyone else use work gloves for hunting/shooting in the fall. If not and it's a bad idea what do you shooting glove guys do for a cold weather glove.

Here in Michigan I use a hand muffler that is insulated.
I keep a hand warmer in there and both hands on my lap. When the shot comes, you can pull your hands out silently.
It also doubles for carring small stuff.

I always wear either cotton jersey camo gloves or expando-flage(not sure of this name) glove with the shooting fingers cut off, winter or the early season to camo my hands and also keep them warmer when needed. I'm not in NY but it still gets relatively cold here. On real cold days I also have a muff around my waist with hand warmers inside.

I wear a medium weight XL hunting glove with the first three fingers cut off.  My  shooting glove pokes out through them.  In really cold weather I'll just keep a hand warmer pack in my pocket till it's time to shoot.

In warm weather and in most of our mild late season I wear the cotton jersey gloves with no alterations. I shoot split and use a tab. In cooler weather, I use a pair of fleece gloves just the same as with the cotton gloves. They are light enough that shooting is not a problem. This might work for you too, but a muffler with a hand warmer may also be needed in your climate. Work gloves did not work for me as they are too loosely fitted. Maybe a little more tailored leather glove would work, though. Cutting the 3 fingers out of the glove defeats the purpose of the glove, because once these fingers get cold, your hand is cold, period. At least, that's how I see it. Try several shooting sessions with a tab and see if this is a workable late season approach. This cold weather thing is one of the reasons I quit using a shooting glove.

When I shot 3U W/glove, I shot the glove I used all the time and just slipped it into one of the wool, cold weather finger-less "shooter's gloves".  They're available with the "retractable" finger cover portions that can be pulled over and then folded back to a velcro attachemnt to keep it out of the way, if you prefer to go that route.  It bitter cold your hands are going to be in some kind of hand warmer/muffler anyway.

Thanks all for the responses. I will check out the options posted here and find what works best for me. I did forget about those "retractable shooting" gloves I believe I might even have a pair stuffed in a box somewhere in the basement.

I use a wool mitten, similar to that mentioned above.  It's like a fingerless glove with a mitten top that flips over to cover the fingers, or pulled back to free the fingers.  Just pull it on over my shooting glove.

I hunt in northern Michigan and have been out in some pretty cold weather. I also use a hand muff to keep my hands warm. Slip a chemical handwarmer in there and it's great!

I shoot 3 under with a tab and wear nothing on the string hand. I wear a mechanix glove on my bow hand just to keep it warm enough and give some grip. On really cold days here I hang my bow up and keep both hands in a muff like mentioned then keep my string hand in the muff until the last minute when I'm ready to take a shot. I will say this however the hand muff has cost me shots at deer on windy days when I did not see or hear them and was caught with both hands in the muff.

The above X2 except I wear a jersey year-round on my shooting hand, in all weather.  Maine is cold in fall/winter but jerseys are generally warm enough, and when it gets chilly (say 20 degrees or less) the hand/glove just goes in the jacket pocket for added protection.  Tab stays on/attached to the gloved hand via a cord, can't fall off the fingers and always ready to use.

I use my American leathers year round.  When its cold I use a glove over with the fingers cut out.
