Loaded up the canoeyak and headed out to the small cove behind the house. Dunno what changed but I took a slightly different route into the area, it’s got one road in but it splits off a couple times that all loop back together into a big teardrop shape. But I’m glad I did. Came around the corner and I see a couple pelicans near shore and they look to be in a bad way. They are hung up in a trotline.
So I call up the two local wardens, one is a stick bow guy himself but he doesn’t answer, luckily the other guy does. Unfortunately, he’s on the far side of the county and asked me to try to take care of the situation. I could use the canoeyak to paddle out to the tree and free that side. But it’s not that deep and I’ve got brand new waders at the house, which is only 500yds as a crow flies. So I call the wife and she brings me the waders and some other stuff like a couple towels. I’m able to pass them up and cut the far side, and my wife slowly and gently pulled them to shore. It’s a good thing she did because I tried to free them and he wasn’t having any of that. And they had hooks wrapped around and into a leg.
Unfortunately the other guy was already gone dead and had been.
But now I’m out in the woods dressed more like for duck hunting than deer. Good news is the waders are warm!
