70# ACS CX 64" performance 180 fps 748 gr arrow
«

I just did some Chrono testing in the back yard with a Silvertip marked 70# and an ACS CX marked at 70# both shooting a 748 gr arrow.
ACS 180 fps
Silvertip 172 fps.
Just a comparison not a sanctioned test.
this is not meant to discredit the silvertip at all .
I do not have a scale here so there could be a few pounds differance from how the bows are marked the ACS is 6 months old and the Silvertip could be 10 years old.
I did 10 shots from each bow. this is meant to say both of these peform very well with a heavy Elk set up. just trying to see what one will go in the fall.

With either of those rigs you could change your name to Elk Killer; assuming you're using a really sturdy and sharp 2-blade, you should be able to blast right through an elk scapula or, if you hit no bones, zip right through two elk at once. I could never pull that much and shoot accurately even in my best years, when I could bench-press four reps of 240 pounds. Yours in envy, dave

Dave as we all know, its the shot placement.
I will be using a 210 German Kinetic Broadhead and this will add 10 grains to the rig.
I have hunted Elk for 3 years this may be the one .

Discredit, I think it does just the opposite. Those ACS bows are supposed to over 200 AMO more like 211 AMO or something and the Silver tip is supposed to due like high 180's. It shows the Silvertip is darn close in performance or at least closer than people are led to believe. Shawn

If you have an interest in bow performance you may want to check out the following link. This was a very scientific test in a fair controled environment. The ACS CX was included as was a Saffire Hawk. The other 20 or so were built by garage bowyers like me. Interesting to note that the acs cx did not win and only beat a RD BBO (all wood)rig by 1 fps. The BBO was however, built by the world record flight shooter in the all wood catagory (Steve Gardner). Check it out a very interesting read.

The Silvertip was a fast flight model.
My draw is approx 29.25", both bows created 70# at 29"

Bill,
Our setups are nearly identical.
My 66" ACS-CX is marked 67 @ 28 and I'm pulling 29 inches, which works out to be about 71#. I too shoot a fairly heavy arrow, weighing 815-825 grains. My chrono tests are in the high 170's, depending on how well I can get off the string.
The one thing I've noticed by chrono testing is the absolute need to really stretch out to get the final fractions of inch to get the highest speed numbers. Without having done the testing myself I'd never had known the importance of those last fractions of inch in draw length.

Elk Chaser my setup for elk is the same 70# @28" bighorn pulling 29.5" w/a 720 grn weighted 2216 [I never cronoed but she's very quick] I've had complete pass thrus on all of my elk. I would select my bow selection on what bow has the most mojo at the time.

Thanks for sharing, I wish I could draw a 70# bow, I'm just not built for it.
I'm just wondering..are those really impressive numbers? 180 fps at just shy of 11gr per pound?
My current goto bow is a Mahantango longbow that draws 51#'s at my 29" draw and I get consistant low to mid 150's fps with a 722gr arrow. That's around 14gr per pound.
I was under the impression that the ACS was a super performer.

Once you go over 65# draw weight bows start losing efficiency. As arrow weights go up, speeds get closer among all the well made/designed bows. The AMO test is done at 9gpp and take it for what it's worth.

elk,
In order to compare with you I made today some comparisons between my ACS 73@28 and one of my silvertip,
[email protected]
of them are FF equiped.
this silvertip (one piece) wears large brush buttons and "bear wool silencers". This bow is not new cause I have shot more than 10.000 arrows with her.
The ACS is only equiped with the factory wool silencers but her dyna string is 4 strands less...
My draw length is near 29" in LB.
I got with the silvertip an average 170 fps speed and 177 with the ACS.
the arrow is a 900 gr GT BG 100+.
