Who’s hunting with warfed bow ??
« on: December 10, 2020, 01:01:48 PM »
Just curious who might be hunting with something that was warfed. Recurve or longbow, and what’s your thoughts on it. I have a couple that I have thinking about hunting just to try something different !!! Your thoughts ??

An old compound that has  been stripped down to the bare riser and then machined to accept ILF limbs. Then it’s a recurve or longbow !!

I have a Frankenbow I've been playing with but I have yet to hunt with it. Maybe next year. It has a Bear Black Bear compound riser and Samick limbs. Draw weight is 58lbs. Shoots pretty good.

My Uncle Herb got me interested in bow hunting when I was a kid. On the weekend I would see him come home with his Shakespeare recurve and his back quiver from the morning hunt! In 2013 Herb passed and left me some stuff including a Martin Lynx compound !!! It’s really not worth much so I sent it out to have it machined to take ILF limbs. It makes a pretty good recurve, has a radiused shelf and a friendly grip.  Been thinking about taking a bit of Uncle Herb with me into the Georgia woods. He hunted from the early 60’s to about 2010 and never killed a deer with his bow.  But he went like it was his job..... lol !! Maybe that’s where I get it from !!

A fellow on the west coast did mine for but he longer does it. Sam Dunham did it for a long time but I think he is done also. Not sure who else still does the work !!

Just found out the Hawkeye guy ebay that made plates to fit several bows passed away so there is not too many people taking up the torch. Pretty easy plates to make if you have the measurements of the limb pockets for them to go into. I have some machining classes under my belt from our college but no mill. Guess I need to go back for some more evening "classes." Wife works there so the class is free. The shop teacher really likes me and said I could use the machines whenever.

Yup, Me! I forgot the name, but it's the same riser as a black bear, only in factory camo. I have several sets of ILF limbs to choose from.  Awesome riser. I also have a quarf, a Quinn stallion riser converted to ILF. Haven't hunted with that one yet.

Maybe a renewed interest in Warfs? There is even a FB group. I still use my Rambo Warf and Pearson risers. I have a few sets of limbs. Maybe someone will pick up the torch and do the milling agian. I believe one reason Warfing kind of died was the cheap risers and bows on the big auction site.

Lot of $100 ILF metal risers on the market now. I will say my black bear has a noticeable heft to it compared to my samick sages and newer metal riser.

I'd be interested in having a frankenbow. My concern would be weight as most old compounds were very heavy. You can find them used for free everywhere you look.
Relax,
