bareshaft problem
« on: April 21, 2008, 09:06:00 PM »
I am shooting a longbow cut to center. Using a leather arrow rest shooting off the shelf. The problem is that i cannot get the bareshaft to stop nosediving off the release.  This would seem to indicate a nock high or nock too low condition.  I have tried everything.  I have put the nock point up to 3/4" and lowered it by 1/16" down to 1/2" below.  And still it is the same result.  There doesnt even seem to be any improvement as I move the nock one way or another it just stays the same.  THe bow is from a reputable bowyer so I dont think it is a tillering probelm.  The only other thoughts I have is that is might be the brace height (which is set within the bowyers recommendations) or I am thinking of putting on a rug rest in the theory that the leather one is too hard of a surface for the arrow to transition from.

Any help is appresiated.

i will try that monster but I am still concerned with the bareshaft problem, unless this suggestion is independent of bareshafting and is to be considered as a tuning implement

Can you tap the string and get them to fall off?

Put on a rug and see if less drag helps. Shouldn't be a big deal on a radiused shelf, but short of seeing you actually shoot it's hard to know what's happening.

im quite sure its not form related, i shoot my other bows with what I think is good form,

I even tried one of my other bows arrows without fletching with the same problem.  Also when shooting fletched shafts there is also apparent nosedive and a nock high condition until the fletching takes over.

If the bow was out of kilter that could be seen by watching you bring it to anchor and shooting also.

The bow may have been tillered for 3 under, try a nock point of 7/8"s and shoot it. Shawn

I should of said before doing that make sure your elbow is not too high. That is what it could be in the first place. Shawn

That's true. You may have to go as high as an inch, depending on the tiller if it's a three under bow.

Way stiff arrow. Try a 2016. A 2219 spines out for a 90# bow at that length.
