Was gifted some arrows question on set up
« on: December 28, 2020, 07:38:11 PM »
Well after many years of shooting the same ole reliable 40lber I was gifted a 55lb bow...2 years ago and never got around to shooting it. Well fast forward to today and my dad sent me a dozen 2315 cut to 30”. They just showed up and it’s exciting as being 12 all over again!!!
Being a little overspined I just ordered 200 grain heads.
The shaft at that length would work with 190 gr tips if I was shooting 61 to 65lbs.
Do you think 200 gr at 57.5lb (I draw 29) will work?
I’m going to de-fletch two of them and buy a plunger rest (guess the days of the bear weatherrest are over,) and paper tune bare shaft.

You don't say what bow you are shooting, but I would be shocked if those arrows aren't way stiff and that large diameter just magnifies the problem. In my experience paper tuning with a stickbow and finger release is an excercise in futility. Go on Black Widows website and check out Ken Beck's video on bare shaft tuning, it is very good. Oh, and Bear Weather Rest is still available. :

We used to screw a point in the back of the insert too.
Back in the 90s when 2512s got popular we left them long and weighted the hell out of em.
I bet you end up with 20% F.O.C or more.
Glue the threads because they can work loose. Make them work, it will be fun.  :shaka:

Looks like good penetration. Are they kicking side ways of the bow first, then straightening out?

Cool. Move back and take note. At 30 yards you have time to see the arrow.
Hope they work, really do but keep testing.

If they are flying side ways you loose a lot of energy on impact.
Ran into the same thing once. :)
